Meet Mac

Mac Brydum, MSW, CLEC, was raised in Denver, Colorado, by two loving parents. He excelled in school from an early age, loved the color green, and had a deep interest in animals and babies (and baby animals!), thanks to a compassionate mom who taught him gentleness. As a teenager, Mac started a neighborhood pet-sitting, babysitting, and house-sitting business.

Mac pursued a career path in social work, earning an MSW from the University of Denver in 2013 with a focus on family systems therapy. He also completed a specialized internship in animal assisted therapy, studying the positive effects of the human-animal bond in healing trauma. Mac’s formal education and career as a social worker was gratifying, but he longed for a more personal way to impact the families he was serving.

IMG_2736After channeling his passion into professional organizing for both LGBT rights and social justice for a few years, Mac began seeking career paths that would be both personally and professionally fulfilling. He found his calling in January 2015, when he completed his doula training. “That Doula Guy” was born, and has been offering culturally competent, inclusive doula care for families ever since. Mac has also taken additional training to become a Certified Lactation Educator Counselor (CLEC), and he enjoys supporting breast/chest feeding families with the information they need to feel confident about their feeding choices.

In 2017, Mac joined the Braving Doula Collective, a team of doulas who provide support to families during the childbearing years.
